Morgan Park parents unhappy with decision to play vs Kenwood in less than ideal conditions

"The decision was made by UIC's representation to play through the rain. Then later after the rain continued, the game was deemed a no contest after it was canceled in the third inning due to the rain. The decision wasn't made by either coach to stop play. It was over our heads," said Morgan Park head coach Daccarius Chapman.

CHICAGO Kenwood came into this matchup in first place with a 7-2 conference record (10-6-1 overall) while Morgan Park is second at 8-3 and 13-6-2 overall.

It will remain that way after the game was ruled a no contest after the third inning due to rain.

The Broncos jumped out early scoring seven runs in the bottom of the first inning and added another four in the bottom of the second behind a three run home run from senior Lance Moon. What started out as a light drizzle midway through the first inning turned into a moderate rainfall.

The umpires came together and called for a rain delay to see if the precipitation would subside. The forecast predicted at least another hour before there was any change.

After about ten minutes, the home plate umpire met with the officials at Curtis Granderson Stadium on the campus of UIC to see about resuming the game, It was a go.

That left Morgan Park parents in disbelief.

”This is flat out ridiculous,” yelled one Mustang mom.

Another parent who didn’t want to be identified yelled, “is it really that serious? Is it about these kids safety or winning a baseball game.”

Former Mustangs head coach now Triton College head coach Ernest Radcliffe had no issues with them resuming play. "We played the championship in this kind of weather," he said.

The game resumed and Morgan Park put up a four spot in the top of the third before the umpires had finally seen enough and called the game.
