#NewMoney David Bote had a career high 7 RBI
CHICAGO- There is no money like new money and when David Bote signed his 5 year/$15 million deal at the beginning of the season, he became just that, #NewMoney.
Bote put his money where his bat is Wednesday evening going 4-4 with a career high 7 RBI's (Hall Of Famer Ryne Sandberg was the last Cubs second baseman to have 7 RBI in a game). The Cubs needed every bit of it as they held off the Colorado Rockies 9-8 in a very foggy night at Wrigley Field. Bote gave the credit to his teammates for keeping the train moving. "I just happened to be the one to get the mistakes. Everybody up and down the lineup really kept the pressure on the pitchers keeping men on base."
Manager Joe Maddon said Bote has "befriended the other side of the field' & has a more "handsy approach" in the box which has led to better results. He had a recent streak where he hit safely in 8 straight starts batting .407 (11-27). "
Yu Darvish went 5.1 IP giving up 3 hits & 3 runs (2 earned) 3 walks & 5 strikeouts on 95 pitches. It was Darvish's first outing going less than 6 inning's pitched since May 15th versus Cincinnati. Brandon Kintzler picked up the win and Steve Cishek got his second save of the season.
Oh yeah...the Cubs reached an agreement on a multiyear deal with closer Craig Kimbrel (3 year/$43 million) to add some much needed depth to a bullpen that's struggled this season.
FINAL SCORE- Cubs 9 Col 8
