*Cory Spangenberg (2 pitches- 1 ball 1 strike) Got behind in the count...got him to pop out to Schwarber in left field Grade (A)
*Erick Aybar (1 pitch- 1 strike) Broken bat ground out to Bryant at 3rd Grade (A)
*Luis Torrens (4 pitches- 1 ball 3 strikes) Got ahead in the count...got him to ground out to Zobrist at 2nd Grade (A)
Pitch Count - 7 pitches (5 strikes/2 balls)
Synopsis - CJ faced 3 batters and once again it was a 1-2-3 inning aka "Light Work" for his 2nd appearance in as many days. I always say getting ahead in the count is key to pitching then you can work everything else in. He had his fastball working between 95-96 mph and got 3 weakly hit balls for 3 outs to keep the game tied at 1. Edwards Jr has a 1-0 record with a 0.90 ERA in 22 appearances. He's given up 6 hits and 2 runs while walking 8 with 27 strikeouts.
Going deeper into ballgames may be the move for CJ when we enter the second half of the season. I know he had inflammation issues a couple of years ago in the minors but now is the time to think about extending him. I think he's being prepped for the closer role for next season.
