CJ's Progress Report - Joe Maddon's 1000th W

We caught up with Carl Edwards Jr after the Cubs 9-5 win over the Cincinnati Reds Tuesday night at Wrigley Field. It was Joe Maddon's 1000th win as a manager. He summed Joe up in one word and talked about what inspires him most. Always an exclusive when #CJ is rocking with #TheBIGS!

Carl Edwards Jr. v Cincinnati Reds 5/16/17

(8th inning)

*Scott Schebler (5 pitches- 2 strikes 3 balls) Got ahead in the count....lazy fly ball to center. Had to come from behind to get him. Grade (B)

*Jose Peraza (4 pitches- 3 strikes 1 ball) Got ahead in the count...lazy fly ball to right. Grade (A)

*Tucker Barnhart (4 pitches- 4 balls) Got behind in the count...4 straight balls for a walk. Grade (F)

*Patrick Kivlehan (3 pitches- 2 strikes 1 ball) Got ahead in the count....lazy pop out to 2nd. (Grade A)

Pitch Count - 16 pitches (7 strikes/9 balls)

Synopsis- Edwards Jr. faced 4 batters...he walked one and got 3 lazy pop outs. He is almost 100% when he gets that first pitch over for a strike and he did that against 3 of the 4 hitters. His fastball was between 95-97 and he was a little out of the zone more than usual but an overall good outing by CJ. He's 1-0 with a 1.10 ERA....he's walked 7 and struck out 22 batters while giving up 2 homers this season. Opponents have a .113 average against him.

Overall Grade (B)

The sky is the limit for Jr. "My goal for this season is to make the All-Star team and to sign to Brand Jordan," he says. If he keeps up this pace they won't be able to keep him out of Marlins Park (sight of the MLB 2017 All-Star Game) in July and he'll have his choice of brands to choose from. I guess Jordan ain't too bad....
